Just For Fun –– Union Pacific Announces Big Boy Schedule

Union Pacific has announced its schedule for Big Boy operation for the remainder of 2024.
From Union Pacific:
Union Pacific Railroad’s Big Boy No. 4014 is set to steam across 10 midwestern and southern states during its Heartland of America Tour, starting Aug. 9 in Cheyenne, Wyoming and concluding in late Oct. This is the second tour the world’s largest operating steam locomotive will embark on this year.
Big Boy will make several whistle-stops in communities along its route and hold display days for the public to see the locomotive. That includes:
- Sept. 8: Chicago metro area (Rochelle, Illinois)
- Oct. 6: Houston, Texas
- Oct. 10-11: Ft. Worth, Texas
The train will also pass through Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Additional route details and approximate times will be shared closer to the tour, but you may use Union Pacific’s steam schedule page information, here, for current details.
Big Boy is also about to kickstart its Westward Bound Tour on Sunday, June 30. Between the two tours, the locomotive will have visited 14 states in 2024.
