Siemens’ new 60,000 square-foot rail service headquarters in Sacramento, Calif., which serves as Siemens Mobility Customer Services U.S. headquarters and West Cost logistics hub, is now fully operational.

Sacramento McClellan Employee 2Siemens has nearly doubled its workforce at the new Sacramento facility since opening its doors in February and says it plans to continue hiring to support its growing rail service, maintenance and repair business. The plant complements Siemens’ existing rail manufacturing operations in South Sacramento, which has been in operation for almost 30 years, currently employs nearly 1,000 people, and includes a recent 125,000 square-foot expansion to accommodate growing production needs.

One of the first projects at the new facility is a $21 million contract to modernize 32 SD160 light rail vehicles for Calgary Transit in Alberta, Canada. Siemens’ Customer Services business has also partnered with Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) to complete refurbishment of 21 LRVs for the RT system. The refurbishments are expected to add approximately 15 years of additional useful life to the vehicles, which are currently in operation on the Blue Line to Cosumnes River College extension.
