Preventing, not chasing, the ambulance

The Sept. 29th NJ Transit accident in Hoboken will, of courser, trigger another round of the now-usual “how could its,” “should nevers,” “told yous,” “failure to properly regulates,” “lack of trusts,” “insufficient crew members,” “inadequate trainings” “cost/benefits,” from the usual parties, most of whom are motivated by the best of intentions, which just happen to coincide with some strictly personal agendas, or strictly organizational agendas, or election needs, and . . .

NJT train crashes at Hoboken Terminal

(Updated Sept. 30, 9:35 AM EDT) One person died and 108 were injured, some of them critically, when an NJ Transit train crashed through an end-of-platform bumping block and into the train concourse in Hoboken Terminal just before 9:00 AM on Thursday, Sept. 29.

New New Jersey Transit transit village under way

Aberdeen-Matawan is the busiest station on New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line regional/commuter rail line, which links Newark and New York with the Jersey Shore. Now, some underutilized land at the station in Aberdeen Twp. will be transformed into a mixed-use transit village.

No change at Long Branch

If you’ve been commuting into New York City on New Jersey Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line and your destination has been Penn Station, changing trains at Long Branch, N.J., has been a given since electrification was extended there from South Amboy in the late 1980s.

BLET, SMART-UTU reject NJT contract

The members New Jersey Transit’s two largest unions, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) and SMART Transportation Division-United Transportation Union (UTU), have voted against the tentative agreement reached in March between NJ Transit and a coalition of its 16 railroad unions.

Crosbie crosses out NJT

New Jersey Transit will have to resume its search for a new Executive Director, as William Crosbie, who was hired by the agency in early April to replace Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim, unexpectedly and abruptly changed his mind.

Hudson-Bergen Light Rail turns Sweet 16

In April 2016, New Jersey Transit’s Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (HBLR) celebrates its 16th anniversary of operation. HBLR was the first successful DBOM (Design/Build/Operate/Maintain) deployment of a transit system in the modern era (post-World War II) and represents a throwback to when public-private partnerships were commonly utilized to build and operate railways.

Crosbie tapped to lead NJ Transit

New Jersey Transit has appointed William “Bill” Crosbie as Executive Director, effective April 25, 2016. Crosbie replaces Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim, who left NJT in December 2015 to become President of MTA New York City Transit.
